International Scholars Program

The INTERNATIONAL SCHOLARS PROGRAM originated at the University of Rochester in 1970 as a means of introducing basic scientists and clinical investigators to laboratory concepts and technology. In 1976, the program transferred to the University of Louisville.

The first Visiting Investigator was Dr. Koseke Okada from Hiroshima, Japan. Since that time, the program transferred to the University of Louisville (in 1976) and attracted more than 50 students and investigators from 26 countries. Most of these individuals spent, or will have spent, one to three years doing research in molecular endocrinology.

The participants have been funded by the Fulbright Foundation (Washington, D.C.), International Union Against Cancer (Switzerland), Fogarty Foundation, National Institutes of Health (Washington, D.C.), CONESIT (Argentina), Deutschesforschungs-gemeinschaft (Germany), Ministry of Health (Yugoslavia, Austria), and other private sources in addition to fellowships established by the Hormone Receptor Laboratory.
