Medical Student Exchange

An outgrowth of the International Scholars Program, the Medical Student Exchange began as a result of the establishment of an exchange program for students, faculty and staff of the University of Innsbruck with members of the University of Louisville. During the last 15 years, more than a dozen medical students from both institutions have participated in this program which has now been expanded to other countries where former members of the International Scholars Program have established residency.

The Medical Student Exchange is designed to provide first and second year students with a joint laboratory and clinical experience in a foreign setting. Usually two to three students are selected annually. However, with the increasing demand for the program, more preceptors and sites have been established. The former participants of this program suggest that it has been highly advantageous to their medical careers in addition to expanding their appreciation of foreign cultures.
